LA MALETA
"LA MALETA" offers a poignant portrayal of the immigrant experience through the journey of Lina, a professional ballet dancer and entrepreneur, who navigates the challenges of starting anew in the United States due to political and economic strife in her home country. As Lina confronts language barriers, menial jobs, discrimination, and cultural shock, she grapples with feelings of disorientation and anxiety, ultimately seeking solace in therapy.
As a multidisciplinary artist, my vision was to create a narrative that resonates with all immigrants, irrespective of social or migratory status, highlighting the resilience and contributions of Latinx culture to the American landscape. "LA MALETA" aligns with the mission of celebrating diverse voices and promoting inclusivity in the performing arts by shedding light on the universal themes of identity, belonging, and the pursuit of the American dream. Through Lina's story, the production aims to foster empathy, understanding, and dialogue about the immigrant experience, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and culturally rich society.
The production and premiere of this play were funded by United Arts of Central Florida.
